U.S. peanut industry to discuss exports, sustainability at 2023 Peanut Congress

June 12, 2023 (Amelia Island, Fla.)—U.S. peanut industry leaders are meeting in Amelia Island, Fla., this week for the industry’s 27th annual USA Peanut Congress. During the four-day conference, from June 12-15, leaders from all sectors of the peanut industry will be discussing export markets, sustainability, research and the upcoming peanut crop. Peanut Congress is a joint meeting between the American Peanut Council and the American Shellers Association.

Some of the highlights from this year’s business sessions include:

  • Sustainability and consumer activation - James Ohlandm, global category director for nuts, Mars Wrigley
  • Peanut research - Dr. Bob Kemerait, chairman elect, American Peanut Research & Education Society
  • 2023 crop update - Dr. Scott Monfort, extension peanut agronomist, University of Georgia Cooperative Extension
  • Nutrient dense life - Adam Albrecht, founder & CEO, The Weaponry
  • International pesticides, heavy metals & MRL policies - Alinne Oliveira, deputy director of global access, Bryant Christie

There will also be a panel discussion on reaching the Gen Z demographic, as well as the highly- anticipated APC Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement awards.

“Peanut Congress is the premier U.S. peanut event where leaders from across the industry come together to hear from their peanut peers and subject experts in areas like sustainability, exports, research and nutrition,” said APC President & CEO Richard Owen. “The information being discussed at Congress not only engages members in issues critical to them, but it will help drive the industry forward as we plan our future export marketing strategy and phase two of the Sustainable U.S. Peanut Initiative.”

In addition to the business sessions, APC working committees will also meet during Congress. Individual committees on export markets, sustainability and research, to name a few, will be planning what’s next for the organization as it continues to move forward with its three main program areas. The APC board of directors and executive committee will also meet.
