APC’s Vlazakis promoted to VP of International Programs

June 18, 2024 (Alexandria, Va.)—The American Peanut Council today announced the promotion of Peter Vlazakis to Vice President of International Programs. Vlazakis oversees generic trade and consumer promotions in existing and emerging export markets on behalf of the U.S. peanut industry. As part of APC’s international market promotion team, Vlazakis’ work helped contribute to the growing importance of exports to the peanut industry, which reached a record-high $889.5 million in 2023.

Since joining APC in 2016, Vlazakis has organized and led activities to increase demand for U.S. peanuts and peanut products worldwide. His portfolio includes Canada, China, Japan and Mexico, among other critical peanut markets. He also oversees global technical and regulatory monitoring. Vlazakis has successfully led the industry’s application process for the Agriculture Department’s Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program. Earlier this year, under Vlazakis’ leadership, APC was awarded $3 million from USDA’s new Regional Agricultural Promotion Program.

“Peter’s involvement in nearly all aspects of our international programs brings a deep understanding that will continue to benefit the industry well into the future,” said APC President and CEO Richard Owen. “His work on the industry’s new export strategy, plus staff leadership of APC’s Export Committee and Packaging and Handling Committee, is well known by our members.”

Prior to joining APC, Vlazakis served as export market coordinator for the American Pistachio Growers, a voluntary trade association representing growers and processors in California, Arizona and New Mexico. He also spent time working as an intern trade assistant for the U.S Commercial Service, which acts as the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. Vlazakis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the George Washington University. He grew up on his family farm in Central California.
